Dear friends, I invite you to visit the Grand Museum of Maya World of Merida. The GMMMM is a new museum that has added to the many attractions of the "White Mérida", capital of Yucatan and heart of Mayab, the land of the Mayas of yesterday and today.
Opened on December 21, 2012, the date on which the account of the Maya calendar signaled the end and beginning of a new era.
Here the collection of the former Regional Museum of Yucatan, or Canton Palace, consisting of about 800 Mayan pieces is safeguarded. But you can go even further back in time to know about the Chicxulub meteorite that impacted Yucatan peninsula 65 million years ago, which defined the natural environment of the maya peninsula.
In this museum, whose architecture recreates the ceiba, the sacred tree of the Maya, you will discover that Maya people does not really disappeared. You will be able admire the sound and light show every night that is reflected in the exterior walls of the Grand Museum of the Maya World of Merida.
Since it is an interactive museum, we recommend that you spend at least half a day there. The museum is located in the extension of Paseo de Montejo, next to the Convention and Exhibition Center Yucatan Siglo XXI.
